Children In Need Fundraising

Between August and November, we will be hosting a a range of fun and challenging events for our staff, children and parents to raise money for Children in Need.We will be participating in a cycle ride, a hike from Corfe Castle to Swanage (12.2 miles) and inviting our nursery children to complete a sponsored walk/toddle from Boscombe Pier to Bournemouth Pier (2.3 miles), finishing up with a cake sale & a raffle.Any support or sponsors would be gratefully received... Moors Valley Treat!

Our tiny Blossoms as they got to go out for a rare trip to Moors Valley! It was action packed from the beginning with the play parks, then a train ride around the park, before stopping for a delicious picnic.After all that fun, they had a well earned sleep �� then in the afternoon, they read the Gruffalo story and even got to meet the characters up close!! They just had time to enjoy a yummy ice lolly before being picked up!What a special day for all of the staff and children. Huge thanks to our parents for being so flexible and enabling us to take the children for this memorable day out. It’s one that the staff will not forget!

Sunflower Competition

This year we decided to start a new tradition! Each child potted their own sunflower seed and took them home to look after. We invited parents and relatives to keep us updated on the progress of their sunflowers over a period of six-seven weeks!We recieved so many wonderful updates, stories and pictures....it became a family affair with everyone helping out. Once parents started recording measurements, it all became very competetive. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and kept us informed.The winner was announced on the 20th July and will have their name and measurements displayed on a gold plaque, which will be on a handcrafted wooden sunflower. The sunflower will have pride of place in our reception area and your child’s name will become part of Orchard’s history as the years go by. We will then hold an annual competition and add more gold plaques to our sunflower. Our well deserved winner was Isaac Cheater (Blossoms) Congratulations to Isaac, his Mummy, Daddy and brother and sister. You took such good care of your sunflower and kept us regularly updated on it’s progress. It had reached a whopping 175cm. We are all very proud you!

The lifecycle of an egg

In March this year the children loved learning all about the lifcycle of an egg....they observed the live hatching of our ducklings, which was a magical expereince! They then helped us as the ducklings grew and even gave them their first swim in the paddling pool!

Ice age....

Since returning to Orchard Day Nursery after Christmas, the children in Green apples have been talking about Penguins. We started to look at pictures of them, reading books and learning about all things Penguin. We reinacted the life of a penguin through role play, dressing up, creating ice structures, constructing igloos, hand puppet play, observational drawings, exploring ice and sensory play.We are hoping over the coming weeks to experiment with more structures, finding out lots of interesting facts about Penguins such as their environment, habitat and friends. Some of the children have even been visiting Penguins at the weekend with their families to support their interests further!We will write a letter to Marwell Zoo about the children's keen interest in Penguins and look forward to receiving their response. Watch this space for updates!!

Thank you to everyone who donated and supported our events towards raising money for Children In Need. We raised an impressive £389.00 through a cake sale, pyjama day and village walk.

Remembrance Day

This Friday (11th November) we will be taking all of the children from the nursery up to the memorial stone in Verwood for a service. The children have been busy creating wreaths and poppies, that they will proudly lay on the memorial stone after the service. Parents and relatives are very welcome to join us for the walk and service. We will be leaving the nursery at 10.30am and returning at 11.30am.
